Understanding Cattle Summary
- To move an animal forward in the chute or alley, stand behind the
point of the shoulder.
- Avoid loud noises and sudden movements.
- To back an animal, move ahead of the shoulder.
- When an animal rears up in the chute, back off.
- Don't wrestle, beat or shout at an animal.
- Avoid use of sticks, canes and hot shots. These can cause serious
bruising as well as create a negative experience to make you and the
cattle want to avoid work day.
- If you have a bad experience, think it through and try to determine
how you could have prevented it using these principles.
