Injections

Give all injections in the neck area of the beef animal, in front of the shoulder blade!

Injection Site This injection, consisting of 2 cc's of product, was given in an improper injection site in the top round or hip. This has traditionally been a popular place to give injections, but this is a good example of why this tradition needs to end. The injection resulted in a six-inch wide lesion that will need to be removed, resulting in lost product and lost money.

Second Site This injection was also given in the wrong place, in back of the hip, resulting in a 1 1/2 inch wide lesion that will have to be removed from these sirloin steaks. In addition to the lost product, the meat will be a lot less tender in the 3 inches surrounding this lesion, seriously impacting customer satisfaction.

Green Lesion An injection given at less than the recommended dosage in an improper location in the hip resulted in this green lesion. You definitely wouldn't want to cut into a rump roast and find this green, nasty mess.

Vitamin A & D Five cc's of vitamin A & D was given in an improper injection site, the wholesale cut of the round. These vitamins are commonly administered to calves at birth, but are very abrasive on muscle tissue and migrate easily. It is extremely important that these injections be given in the proper injection site - in the neck area of the beef animal, in front of the shoulder blade!
